Youngsbury Estate

Brief description of site

Youngsbury has an mid-18th-century landscape park and woodland covering about 56 hectares. The gardens around the house occupy about four hectares, including 16th- and 18th-century walled gardens.

Brief history of site

In around 1745, David Poole built a new mansion at some distance north of the old one, which was demolished. During the 1760s, or possibly earlier, Lancelot Brown produced a design for the park.

Mature trees include Oak, Walnut, Horse Chestnut, Sweet Chestnut and more recent Cedar. The old church tower to the south is frequently visible as an 'eyecatcher'.
